Men Now at Risk to have a Stroke before Middle Age
Amanga Gardner, Healthday reporter, gave the following insight on the new studies conducted regarding strokes.
- Dr. Jukka Putaala and Central Hospital in Finland evaluated over 1,000 patients between the ages of 15-49
- Males predominated the study with the majority of the patients having a stroke before the age of 44
- A second study conducted, revealed that feeling sleepy during the day in older patients increases the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease
- Silent strokes are most common among younger men in their 40s
- Men in their 40s with high cholesterol and hypertension are more likely to suffer from a silent stroke with no prior indications
- Men in their early 40s should get routine check-ups to prevent an early stroke
